INTRODUCTION TO YOGA

4 week series class

UtthitaTrikonasana This series of classes introduces the basics of yoga over 4 consecutive weeks for students who have never before practiced yoga or those who are new to the Iyengar method.

The basic asanas (poses or postures) including standing poses, sitting poses and restorative poses will be taught progressively. These postures build up strength and stamina, improve muscular tone, flexibility and alignment. No prior yoga experience is necessary

IYENGAR YOGA WORKSHOP

Marla Apt

Marla Apt a Junior Intermediate Level 3 Iyengar Yoga Teacher, has been teaching yoga since prior to 1992.

Marla has studied with B.K.S. Iyengar in Asia, Europe, and the United States. She visited India for the first time while doing research for a degree in Buddhist Philosophy and has since returned numerous times for yoga studies. She lived for one year in Pune, India studying at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute with B.K.S. Iyengar, his daughter Geeta Iyengar and son, Prashant Iyengar. She continues to study annually with the Iyengars.

Marla served as the President of both the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States and the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California. She is currently on the national certification committee and is an assessor for the national teacher certification exams.

She has been an organizer of the last three Iyengar Yoga National Conventions including Geeta Iyengar's recent visit to Las Vegas and also helped with the organization of B.K.S. Iyengar's "Light on Life" book tour in 2005 in the U.S.

She is on the faculty of the three-year Teacher Training Program of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California.

Anna Delury is a Senior Intermediate Level I Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and has been teaching yoga since 1980. Anna served as one of the founders of the Iyengar Institute of Los Angeles. She has a BS in Kinesiology from UCLA. Anna studies regularly with the Iyengar family in Pune, India.

The path of Iyengar Yoga can be arduous, but it is also compelling and exhilarating, meditative and filled with light. In each of her classes and with each of her students, Anna shares the light of yoga which B.K.S. Iyengar kindeled in her.

PRANAYAMA SERIES PART I

6 week series class

This series of classes introduces the art of pranayama over 6 consecutive weeks.

Pranayama (control of the breath or vital force) includes techniques to make the respiratory organs move and expand intentionally and rhythmically. Pranayama brings robust health, longevity and concentration of mind.

Pranayama is considered the first step of the Antaranga Sadhana (Inner Quest) in yoga. The regular practice of pranayama helps to regulate the flow of the thoughts, desires and actions, giving the practitioner poise and will power to master the self.

This course will introduce basic techniques of both seated and reclining pranayamas including Ujjayi and Viloma Breath.
6 months of prior yoga experience is required.
